UPDATE: Crossing Guard Hit by Vehicle in North Merrick

She will be heading into surgery for her injuries Wednesday night.

Update: As of 4:30 p.m., Shelley Lotenberg, director of public affairs for Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) told Patch that the victim is in serious but stable condition.

"She is scheduled for surgery this evening and she will be receiving surgery for the leg injury," she said.

Lotenberg also said that contrary to other reports, she can confirm that the woman's collarbone was not broken.

A crossing guard was struck by a vehicle this morning at the intersection of Old Mill Road and Merrick Avenue in North Merrick, Officer Deluca of Nassau County Public Information Office said.

According to Deluca, the crossing guard sustained a leg injury and was "probably" taken to an area hospital.

A parent who witnessed the scene said, "I hope she is OK, what a scary thing for the kids to see."

The accident happened at approximately 8:20 a.m.
